Ashley Furniture Groundbreaking

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Plant 1 Phase I addition to the Ashley Furniture Mid-Atlantic Manufacturing and Distribution Facility located in Advance, North Carolina was held April 17, 2013. Shelco, Inc. is pleased to begin construction of Phase I, which includes a 1,040,000 SF expansion of the existing 1,700,000 SF facility along with associated sitework. Once future Phase II of the 668 acre campus is completed, the Ashley Furniture Davie County Facility will be the be largest furniture manufacturing and distribution facility in the world totaling 3,800,000 SF.

Ballantyne Publix Grocery Store Groundbreaking

Shelco, Inc. has been awarded the new Ballantyne Publix Grocery Store in Charlotte, North Carolina. The brand new 57,000 SF grocery store, located on Providence Road West, is the first Publix in the state of North Carolina. The store will open in 2014.

The groundbreaking for the new store was held Thursday, March 28, 2013.

Winston-Salem State University Hill Hall Student Success Center

The Hill Hall Student Success Center project is a joint venture formed by Shelco, Inc. and R.J. Leeper Construction (Shelco/Leeper). The Student Success Center is a 38,000 SF adaptive reuse of the Hill Hall science classroom building originally constructed in 1964 in the heart of Winston-Salem State University’s academic core. Clark Nexsen Architecture & Engineering’s design includes stripping the building down to the existing concrete and steel structure, concrete floor systems, and roof systems and converting it to a state of the art academic Student Success Center. This CM at Risk project is seeking LEED Gold certification.

Shelco Awarded Fort Mill Elementary School #8

Shelco, Inc was awarded the brand new elementary school #8 located in Fort Mill, South Carolina. This 120,000 SF school, designed by AAG Architects, will house over 1,000 students when it opens in the fall of 2014. This project was bid both single and multi-prime with Shelco being awarded the single prime bid.

Susie Campbell is the 2012 recipient of the Susan Ivey Award.

United Way of Forsyth County’s Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) celebrated five year members and increased support to middle schools in Forsyth County by honoring students, teachers, volunteers and businesses. The celebration, attended by retired President, Chairman and CEO of Reynolds American and WLC Honorary Chair, Susan Ivey Cameron, was hosted October 15, 2012 at the Millennium Center, Downtown Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Awards for outstanding student, teacher, volunteer, corporation, along with the 2^ndannual Susan Ivey award were presented. Recipients Included:

NC State University Carol Johnson Poole Clubhouse Groundbreaking

The groundbreaking for the Carol Johnson Poole Clubhouse was held October 24, 2012 at North Carolina State University’s Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The 30,000 SF 2-story clubhouse located in the heart of North Carolina State University’s Centennial Campus will include dining, locker rooms, pro shop and golf cart storage. Cline Design Associates is the architect for this LEED Silver project.

Wake Forest University Subway Restaurant

Shelco has completed the 2,400 SF renovation of the Subway restaurant located in Reynolda Hall on the campus of Wake Forest University.

Piedmont Federal Savings Bank Corporate Office Building

Shelco has completed construction on the new 60,000 SF five-story corporate office building and branch bank at 201 S. Stratford Road in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Piedmont Federal Savings Bank is pursuing LEED certification for the new building, which includes high-efficiency/low-mercury lighting; high-efficiency HVAC systems; low VOC-emitting interior fixtures and finishes; and high recycled-content building materials. The building was designed by Peterson/Gordon Architects, PA of Winston-Salem.

High Point University School of Education

High Point University held their School of Education grand opening September 13, 2012 in front of the newly constructed 31,000 SF two-story LEED certified classroom building. The new Georgian-style structure, designed by Mercer Architecture, is the new home for High Point University’s Education and Psychology Departments. Faculty and students have access to state of the art technology in the classrooms, computer laboratory and mock elementary school classroom.

Shelco chosen to construct SAS Building Q

Shelco has been chosen by SAS to build their new 220,000 SF Building Q in Cary, North Carolina. We will be creating a complete BIM model for this LEED Gold cast in place office building. Clearing began in June of this year and vertical construction is scheduled to begin in the fall. Shelco is pleased to work with the SAS team including LS3P, Stewart Engineering, Newcomb & Boyd, George Finch/ Boney and Associates, Cole Jenest & Stone.
